Outstanding three-year-old Sincero has claimed his first stakes win in difficult conditions, racing away with the Gosford Guineas.
The race was added to Monday’s program and run on a heavy (9) after being washed out earlier this month.
Trainer Steve Farley admitted he was concerned going into the 1200m Listed race, Sincero’s first outing since December.
“He had to run because he had fallen behind in his preparation,” Farley said.
“I was worried about the heavy track.”
Sincero seemed untroubled as Chris O’Brien took him wide on the turn and the gelding raced to a five length win over Happy Patrick.
The delayed running of the Gosford feature means Sincero will miss Saturday’s Hawkesbury Guineas.
“He will have a barrier trial at Randwick next week and then go on to the Scone Guineas,” Farley said.
“We will nominate for the Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane but I don’t know if he will get there.”
Sincero, who has won seven of his 10 starts, has been the subject of offers from Hong Kong which have so far been rejected.
